More and more law schools have launched clinics representing litigants in the U.S. Supreme Court and other appellate courts across the country. They are expanding the pool of attorneys available to parties needing pro bono appellate counsel, while also offering law students real-world appellate experience. The panel will discuss these important practical impacts and suggest ways to maximize the effectiveness of law school clinics for all involved.

Professor William Baude and Samuel Bray, two leading scholars of constitutional law and federal courts, will discuss the role of originalism and historical law and practice in modern constitutional litigation. Among the most influential voices in the legal academy, both have had their work cited repeatedly in the Supreme Court opinions—on, among other things, remedies, judicial power, and constitutional structure and interpretation. They will explore recent developments in the Court's originalist jurisprudence, including differing approaches to conducting originalist analysis and the implications of these debates for litigants.
