In January 2016, Governor Mark Dayton appointed Diane Bratvold to the Minnesota Court of Appeals. Before that, Judge Bratvold served on the trial bench in the Fourth Judicial District, Hennepin County, Minnesota. Judge Bratvold had 27 years of experience as a trial and appellate lawyer in private practice before becoming a judge. She practiced law at Fetterly & Gordon, P.A., Rider Bennett LLP, and Briggs and Morgan, all in Minneapolis, Minnesota. In 2007, she was inducted as a fellow in the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers. She serves as a director on the board of the Minnesota Supreme Court Historical Society and is a member of the Minnesota Supreme Court Advisory Committee on the state appellate rules. She is past chair of the Minnesota State Bar Association Appellate Section Council and past president of the Eighth Circuit Bar Association. She teaches appellate advocacy at the University of St. Thomas Law School. Diane also volunteers in her community by serving on the board of directors for Advocate for Human Rights and working on the foundation board and South Sudan Committee for Zion Lutheran Church in Anoka.
