Mr. Prendergast has served on the Board and as an officer of the Chicago Bar Association, including as President of the CBA in 1994-1995; on the Supreme Court Board of Admissions to the Bar from 1996 through 2005, including as President of that Board in 1997 and 1998; on the Board of the Lawyers Trust Fund of Illinois from 2006 through 2012, including as Vice-President in 2011 and 2012, and as President of the Celtic Legal Society of Illinois.


He is the past recipient of the Illinois Judges Association President’s Service Award and, in 2017, was selected by the Chicago Bar Association and Chicago Bar Foundation as a recipient of the Justice John Paul Stevens Award.


For more than 20 years, Mr. Prendergast has been listed in each annual edition of Best Lawyers in America, and currently is identified in that publication in five separate areas of practice. He has also been selected by his peers as a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers, the International Academy of Trial Lawyers, the International Society of Barristers and the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers. In addition to Illinois, he is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court and before the federal U.S. Courts of Appeals for the District of Columbia, Federal, Fifth, Seventh and Ninth Circuits.
