Practice Focus
Before her appointment to the Third District Court in Salt Lake County, Linda Jones was an appellate specialist and practiced exclusively before the Utah Supreme Court and the Utah Court of Appeals. She handled numerous cases involving a broad range of issues including evidence, discovery, jury selection, statutory interpretation, constitutional rights, sufficiency of the evidence, criminal and civil procedure, contracts, torts, family law, sentencing, ineffective assistance of counsel, and prosecutorial misconduct. She has authored articles and presented legal seminars on a range of topics dealing with preserving appellate issues, jury instructions, rules and constitutional provisions, discovery, ethics and privileged information, trends and corrections in the appellate courts, persuasive advocacy, and indigent defense in Utah. Linda has served as a commissioner with the Utah Appellate Court Nominating Commission, and a member of the Utah Supreme Court Advisory Committee on the Rules of Evidence, the Utah Supreme Court Advisory Committee on Professionalism and Civility, the Utah Supreme Court Advisory Committee on Criminal Jury Instructions, and the Utah Task Force on Appellate Representation for Indigent Defendants. She also taught appellate advocacy for five years at the S.J. Quinney College of Law and has presented guest lectures.
